Durham Press had a great week exhibiting at Art Miami– we enjoyed seeing the other fairs and all that Miami had to offer. It was fun to see old friends and meet new ones. Several of the Durham Press artists were in and around Miami. Here are a few highlights:

This Thursday, November 17th, at 6pm there will be an auction at Sotheby’s New York called Art for Africa. The works in the auction, generously donated by contemporary African and American artists, will support the Africa Foundation primarily in its efforts to improve the lives of many orphaned and vulnerable children across Africa, through education and healthcare. The Africa Foundation has been hard at work in more than 50 communities across South and Eastern Africa for 19 years – “Empowering communities through conservation.”  Mickalane Thomas and Durham Press have donated one Mickalene’s incredible prints, Landscape Majestic, to this auction and I hope you will take some time to look at all the great lots at the auction and consider supporting it!

Durham Press would like to congratulate Mickalene Thomas on her second solo exhibition at Lehmann Maupin. The exhibition, More Than Everything, opens on Thursday, September 15th and closes on Saturday, October 29th. The exhibition has already been named one of The 100 Best Fall Art Shows by Modern Painters magazine.  More Than Everything presents a selection of works on paper that reveal her artistic process. Mickalene draws on many sources for her influences and often starts her paintings with collages and photographs. For a more in-depth look at Mickalene’s process, click here to see a video, interview and studio tour. Landscape Majesticwas created in 2011, and is a complicated woodblock, silkscreen and digital print that was collaged together. The print is available for sale through Durham Press.
